Embrace a fuller love

Appease me with a baby,

And yoke yourself to the church,

While our faith is still a maybe,

Commitment’s a big lurch.

You want me because I’m “exciting”,

Lust makes you feel like a man,

I don’t exist to make you feel something,

That’s just not in God’s plan.

I’m not an enemy of feelings,

So take it with a grain of salt,

If you chase love and fall for a jerk,

That isn’t love’s fault.

We love and hate both good and bad people,

In this short life we have,

Why are you skipping from church to steeple,

Like marriage is some kind of salve?

“Don’t invest in love, don’t invest in marriage”

Is not what I’m trying to say.

Just remember that flirtation and feeling lovesick,

Won’t forever stay.

We act as though marriage is the solution,

Look at divorce rates; it’s not.

We skip over Christ and generate new sin,

When it falls apart, we get caught.

A woman won’t make you feel,

And a man won’t make you dream,

The very best of love and life,

Is sewn together without seam.

It isn’t fair to make me God,

Or him, or them, or you.

One is not the loneliest number,

When one was killed for two.

And one for two, and millions more,

Christ Jesus shed his blood,

Happiness comes while we stay poor,

And embrace a fuller love.

I am a teacher-to-be who loves people. I am not afraid of many things. I like to explain my thoughts logically on a very birds-eye view level--I was born thinking that way. I follow Jesus Christ, and I accept only that label to describe my identity--that I am a child of God, as are infinite others, regardless of their other identities. Christ is my one thing.
