When a person knows something is wrong but eagerly defends it, often their particular stance is not what it appears. From what I’ve seen of the world, most people argue about what would most intimately condemn either themselves or the ones they care about. If you have a loved one who you want to protect from the world, of course you will want to take their side. Sometimes when we defend what is wrong, we have good intentions in trying to defend those we most love from a world that would crucify them for it. Our hearts are those that instinctively desire after mercy. But as Christian’s, we can both recieve mercy and disclose all there ever is to know about us or our sin; before God, we already have (not a choice). If we are all broken, then we can all share the weight of the knowledge of sin from a place of being freed from it, by the blood of the one who knows.
